A
group of seven Burkina Faso women received financial help through ORUWOCA's
Empower a Woman... Program.
ORUWOCA
continues to touch lives through its various programs.
Yelli
(52)
and
Obi (36)
are among seven women selected in the town of
Diebougou,
Burkina Faso,
to take part in ORUWOCA’s Empower
a Woman Program where women are given grants to start small businesses.
Through their small businesses selling produce and other knick-knacks
at the local market, these women, living under extreme poverty, will
be able to feed their families and even send their kids to school!
The seven women will also
learn basic financial management skills to help their businesses grow.
Each woman will be helped to open to a savings account and encouraged
to save as much as possible.
ORUWOCA will match whatever the women have saved in their accounts
12 months after the program is launched.
A
local school in Maryland supports ORUWOCA'S Give Hope to
a Child Program in Burkina Faso.
The
Oxon Hill Middle
School in
Fort Washington,
MD,
participated in ORUWOCA’s
Dollar for Africa
initiative and their efforts helped to give hope to many children
in
Tiedia,
Burkina Faso.
The funds raised by the students at Oxon Hill were enough to
pay for one-year’s tuition for 68 pupils at
Tiedia-MouleElementary
School.
Each child also received a backpack and school clothes.
Tiedia -Moule Elementary is the only school in the
village
of Tiedia
and is also attended by children from the
village
of
Moule.
These two villages are located in remote areas of Burkina with
limited access to cars.
There is no running water or electricity.
Despite the lack of these basic necessities, the children continue
to have dreams and hope.
The
Oxon HillMiddle
School
has demonstrated the extraordinary things that may be accomplished by
ordinary people.

A group of women in Niger received
help through ORUWOCA's Empower a Woman... Program.
As part of its efforts to help underprivileged women achieve financial
autonomy, ORUWOCA sponsored the Kande Gomni Women of Baleyara in the
fall of 2007. The donated funds will allow the women to begin
small businesses that will benefit their entire community by bringing
in regular income. Please email us at

ORUWOCA touching lives of underprivileged children in Niger

On
February 12, 2008, ORUWOCA held its second annual thanksgiving dinner,
during which meals were provided to the homeless and underprivileged
children in a low-income neighborhood in
Niamey,
Niger.
ORUWOCA views
Niger's
food crisis as a continuous challenge, which must be addressed in a
multi-faceted manner; hence, the purpose of this charity event is to
fill a small void in the lives of the many people that are deprived
of food on an ongoing basis. It is evident that
Niger's
hunger crisis will not be resolved by an annual dinner; however, every
little bit counts. In the long run, ORUWOCA's objective is to make the
annual Dinner a monthly activity, then weekly, and, eventually, daily.
